Realising the significant contributions of the Centre in the field of environment impact assessment of power projects and environmental sensitivity studies of river basins, Ministry of Power, Government of India recognised it as an R&D Centre for conducting studies related with issues of environment and environment management in the power sector. The Centre has conducted a number of studies related to environment impact assessment and prepared environment management plans, biodiversity conservation management plans, Dam break analysis and disaster management plans for various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) of the Ministry of Power and also for private sector companies engaged in power development. The Centre also provides expert advice to various institutions of Government of India, its PSUs and Private Sector in the field of environment and sustainable development. The Centre has also developed state-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise in the area of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) and is making rapid strides in helping Public and Private Sector organisations in these frontline areas.
